100+ Women Who Care of Chittenden County present a $12,500 check to Vermont Family Network
BURLINGTON, Vermont, May 5, 2021: 100+ Women Who Care (100+ WWC), a worldwide charitable giving circle with a new chapter in Chittenden County, Vermont, awarded Vermont Family Network (VFN) with $12,500 at its fourth virtual meeting on April 28, 2021.
100+WWC is celebrating its one year anniversary having collectively given over $38,000 to 12 local organizations and recruiting 165 members to date.In early 2020, South Burlington resident, Barbara Keller, helped launch the Chittenden County Chapter of 100+WWC. “Once I heard about this incredible organization I just had to get involved,” she said. “I made the decision to start a local chapter because I wanted to see the power of like-minded women who care deeply about their community.”
After joining 100+WWC, members pledge to donate $100 (or teams $50 each) four times a year. Prior to the quarterly meetings, each member nominates the non-profit organization they choose to be a possible recipient. When all the nominations are compiled, (3) three organizations are randomly selected by the steering committee. During the virtual meeting, the (3) three selected organizations make their presentations. After their presentations, the members vote to decide who the recipient will be. Currently the one with the most votes receive 80% while the other 2 receive 10% each.
This quarter the members voted for Vermont Family Network to receive the combined donation of $12,500. Runner up charities, The Safety Team and King Street Center also received significant donations of $1600 each and from other generous 100+WWC members who were touched by their compelling presentations.
Vermont Family Network, Executive Director/CEO, Pam McCarthy enthusiastically exclaimed, “ VFN is so honored to receive this special gift and know it will go a long way in our work to support families in Chittenden County. During this time of COVID, families need support, information, and connection more than ever, especially families of children with special needs. Gifts like this one from the 100 Women Who Care, Chittenden County, VT are tremendously helpful in ensuring that all families can access the resources they need to help their children reach their greatest potential!
The pandemic is not stopping people from joining. In fact, it has helped the membership grow. “100+WWC is exactly what I have been looking for,” said a new member from Burlington, ”I have to admit, I've been a little lost since Covid-19 began as my volunteering has waned. I've been looking for ways to be involved in the community in ways that don't involve me physically being there. 100+ WCC is perfect. What a great idea!”
Another member since 100+WWC’s inception recently exclaimed, ”Women rock! But we know this. At long last, there is a vehicle now to demonstrate how cool we really are.”
